1 Fill the seed tray with moist seed compost and firm it down gently to give a level surface.
2 Sprinkle the seeds on the surface of the compost, spacing them evenly.
3 Cover the seeds with about their own depth of seed compost. Fine seeds need no covering.
4 Place the seed tray in a warm, sheltered place and keep the compost moist, but not soggy.
AN EASY WAY TO GERMINATE SEEDS
Sow the seeds into an 8 cm pot. To keep the seed compost moist, put a polythene bag over the pot and secure it with a rubber band. Keep the pot in a warm, well-shaded place.
If moisture forms, flick the bag. After growth starts, remove the bag and put the pot in a brighter position. When the seedlings have two pairs of leaves, prick them out into trays.
